Artist’s Statement

Michela makes highly personal works of expressive contemporary dance.

Her research aims to identify dynamic sense of place through the relocations and reorientations of life. These personal, sociological, philosophical, natural, and metaphysical places shift, and her devised works are results of the efforts of learning to shift-with.

Interoceptive movement is organically structured into choreographic queries of critical domesticity. Phrases and sequences are generated by games of memory, investigations of sensation, and gestural abstraction of the theoretical.

Her works are created and presented in a spirit of curiosity. In many endeavors, Michela finds herself moving along the non-linear spectrum of loneliness and belonging. Less interested in the perfect than in the real, Dwyer centers exploration, contemplation, and play in her practice.
