Featuring movement investigations of suspension, floating, and momentum, a playful choreography contrasts dissonant music in a cavernous museum space.
This piece was an effort to create something cohesive with several incongruous elements. The costume inspires ancient theater while the sculpture in the surrounding space is distinctly modern. Against an abrasive sonic score, the dancer smiles and plays dress-up through simple yet intriguing tasks.
Premiered at the National Gallery of Art as part of “Modulating Movements: Sonic and Kinesthetic Interpretations of Sculptural Works” on April 6, 2024.
Music for this piece titled “Through the Motions” was produced by Melanie Campbell as part of the Electronic Music Composition course at the George Washington University during Spring Semester 2024.
