Exposure

From an object study of a window, a personal narrative emerges. The dancer, performing her first devised work in almost three years, offers herself up to be seen in what feels like the most intimate of circumstances.

“Exposure” is an investigation of the spaces between personal and public, the politics of gaze, and the (dis)comforts of being close.

This piece asks; what do I offer of myself to be seen? How can I welcome the gaze of others, while also looking curiously in return?

This solo was developed as an assignment submission for the Dance Composition II course taught by Anna Kimmel during Spring Semester 2024.
